Been Down So Very Damn Long

 photo backalley_zpse6817229.jpg
It wouldn't be a trip to Vancouver without exploring Gastown and meandering all over downtown. It doesn't matter how many times I've been there it's always fun and always offers up something new. And there is always a few grunge worthy back alleys to serve as a back drop for outfit photos.
I find myself not wanting to look as girly as I used to, I don't know whether that will change once to sun comes out and the flowers blossom. Or maybe I've just changed, either way I'm totally embracing more simple outfits, and am okay with wearing edgier less feminine pieces. I find I feel more myself these days, I think that may have something to do with finding my passion in life, I don't feel like I'm looking to other inspirations other than my daily life. Funny how that works isn't it?
Also coming home from Vancouver always leaves me feeling inspired :)

Where My Heart Sets Sail

 photo van2_zpsa9105174.jpg
The last look of heart month but the first set of photos from Vancouver! I did not want to come home at all, it was so much warmer there, the grass was green and the flowers were started to blossom. It's currently -25 here and I'm getting hella depressed with the weather. I am so glad I got to escape it, even if it was only for a few days.
One of my favourite things to do in Vancouver is head over to Granville market and get some of the tastiest and freshest produce. This time around we grabbed some amazing aged cheese, and fish jerky which was way tastier than it sounds. We also finally hit up the Granville Island Brewery, which is definitely one of my favourites!
Another thing that's my favourite? This maxi skirt, I couldn't resist pairing it with my heart tee and this blush scarf. For me these shades were are perfect together, and have me looking forward to spring finally hitting the wild west.

Blush, Blush, Blush

 photo red2_zps44ce3753.jpg
It's really funny how I used to think red and pink didn't go together because this combination of blush and red is one of my favourites. My mind and heart are set on spring so I've decided to start gearing my wardrobe that way too, and this blush shade just screams spring to me.
I love the way it looks with my red hair, which I am actually thinking about changing. I'm bored but I have no idea what to do next! Help!
Jackets are one of my favourite pieces to buy, because they're so versatile and can really change up any look. This simple grey tee actually has a giant sparkly heart on it but it does not seem to want to show up in photos, boo. But this clutch is perfectly appropriate for heart month with it's bright red colour and heart studs all over, I must say I am rather taken with it. It was a gift from my brother and his girlfriend, they know me quite well I think :D

Oh, My Heart

 photo neon4_zps835a52d9.jpg
My obsession with anatomical hearts began shortly after I was diagnosed with a coarctation of the aorta in '09. I guess it wasn't so much a diagnosis as much as a realization on the part of my doctors, since it's something I was born with. 15 months of attempting to fix it and in June 2011 I finally had open heart surgery and got the ol' ticket fixed.
Now I can't help but be drawn to anything to do with hearts now; it's something that will be super important to me forever. So when I saw this phone case my first thought was "It will be mine, oh yes, it will be mine" so Happy Valentines day to me!
Another thing I fell in love with at first sight? This incredibly neon pink sweater! All the other options were black, grey, or navy, booooring. This colour makes me very happy and isn't that the point of getting dressed?

One Love

 photo red_zps17eb0537.jpg
I bought this skirt about a month ago and have been saving it for February because it's the perfect red piece. I don't understand how I've functioned in my life before having a plain red skirt,  they go with everything! This one is incredibly comfy and I love the flare to it. One of my best friends had a similar one on and had layered it with a chunky black sweater and light bulbs went off in my head, genius! That's why I keep such stylish company ;)
This outfit not only an ode to heart month with the bright red, but a shout out to my main man Mr.Duke. I can't get enough of duke printed clothing and this sweater with the Boston Terrier wearing sunglasses gets me every time. And a leather jacket always finishes any look off in my books

It's Pumpin' Blood

 photo 4_zps4eee91ab.jpg
The first official look of Heart Month 2014!! I was walking past Bang On on whyte avenue last week when I caught a glimpse of a heart printed tee in the window and I HAD to go in and get one made for myself. I decided to go with a grey tee because they're perfectly versatile and a blue decal. I could have gone red but that seemed a bit too literal.
So here I am a hater of pants in the past as a convert to leading a life of two legged confinement. I think I just needed to find the right pair because these are super comfortable and don't make me feel like I can't lunge if I want to. And you better believe I want to. I love the way they can be dressed up with a blazer, heels and a fun necklace too. Easy peasy!

Winter of Mixed Drinks

 photo dress3_zpse5dd3c85.jpg
I absolutely love being part of Flock Together and being able to raid these amazingly stylish girls wardrobes. This dress from Jen came at the perfect time for my best friends Lana Del Ray themed birthday party, it has a cut out in the back and has a great fit and flare shape.
I loved the way the dark blue, black and maroon looked together. I somehow have no navy in my wardrobe and I now believe that is a grave injustice that needs to corrected ASAP. This dress was actually really hard to send onto the next girl because I fell so hard for it. I went ultra glamour with my high high high heels, Jcrew bling and bold leather jacket for the party. I must say it is awesome to take a break from the everyday and get all dolled up with friends.
And no, I don't have my own personal wind machine, but the wind happened to be working with me this day ;)

Snow Flower

 photo flores2_zps17f542b6.jpg
I, like most others, cannot resist a good floral print. There is something so fun, girly and romantic about florals. Especially in the dead of winter, when the ability to see the real thing isn't very likely. That's the part of fashion that I like the best, that by putting something on your whole mood can change.
Pairing this floral number with this khaki style jacket seemed like the perfect balance to me. Masculine and feminine pieces are the combination I lean to the most, I love the way they play off one another. I'm actually surprised I don't wear this jacket more often actually, it's such a great piece. Hopefully once Spring shows up I'll be able to work it into my rotation more :)

A Few of My Favourite Things

 photo pants1_zpsac38fe5b.jpg
So here I am again, wearing pants. It crazy how I spent almost all of last year and the one before that avoiding wearing jeans or pants of most kind. When I finally found a pair of jeans that I liked this past summer everything kind of switched for me. And when I picked up these high waisted leggings from Zara I questioned how I had lived without them for so long!
Not only are they incredibly comfortable, they're easy to dress up or down. Pieces that are versatile are without a doubt worth an investment! Paired simply with a grey long sleeve, my favourite two tone leather jacket, I added a pop of colour with this necklace.
