Earth Tones

As I said before, I had some earthy nature shots to upload, and my it took me way too long. Check out my flickr www.flickr.com/jennadonovan I love really earth tones, and nature shots, they're fun to take and sometimes a little more tricky than one would have imagined. I really like the way these ones turned out, I havn't been keeping up with photography lately. Lack of inspiration? Motivation? Lack of time? Who knows, but I really want to be doing it more, getting better and such. Anyways it's the long weekend, I get to relax!!!
Peace, love, rock n roll JennaD

Love is in the air

Tis the season.....to go to weddings! The summer season is definatly the most popular for weddings, I went to 4 last summer, and I thought I would include some photos from one of them. My brother is a photographer as well, so we went into a feild beside the reception area and did a photoshoot. I love weddings, they're always a lot of fun. I really like the dress I wore here, it's such a great rich blue, and the bubble bottom shape is cool. I kept my accessories pretty simple, with my awesome comfortable mary janes. In these pictures I am holding my old camera, an olympus and I now have a Canon 50D which I loooooove. My hair is really light here...hmm, I guess I got more sun last summer? Anyways I am almost done my killer 12 day work week. I was supposed to go to the gym today but had a brutal headache, so it gave me some moments to blog!!

Groundhog day

I feel like I've been living the same day over and over for the past 6 days, I am in the middle of a 12 day work week (isn't that almost 2 weeks? hmmm..) and most of these days have been quite similar. Exception being instead of the normal 8-10 hour days, on thursday work was 13 hours, friday it was nearly 12. I am exhausted, I am sleep deprived, I am burnt, I am grumpy. But I also soon will have tons of money to put into my school savings. Therefore I am happy. But it also means I'm sorry because after a 10 hour day, a hour and a half workout and then showering, I don't feel very up to blogging, and I sure don't look good enough to take outfit pictures (my outfit consists of tshirts under my flagging outfit and gym shorts...tres chic no?). BUT I do have some nature shots I've been meaning to share on here, just need to finish editing them and they will be up up and away!
Lots of love, hopefully this week brings shorter days and a chance for me to wear REAL clothes *gasp*

Feels like just another day

Like one more dead town's last parade. It feels like time ain't time at all. Take me out, lay me down
Let the dirt fall all around me
Baby ain't it good to be back home?
They're burning futures in the mountains
All lit up, ya you can count yours
Baby ain't it good to be back home?
I have been listening to Matthew Good's album Vancouver all day long. The lyrics above are from the song "last parade". I was supposed to work yesterday and today but it was raining so much I didn't have to. Yesterday I was able to sleep in lots and it was really great. I needed it. My friend Nakael and I met up yesterday had lunch, shopped around whyte ave a bit then went and saw "Descpicable me" which was amusing! I really wasn't expecting to not work today but that's alright, I got a lot done. I went to the gym for 2 hours and had an amazing workout. I'm feeling really good these days. Back to myself, now hopefully it stops raining so I can work and make the money to pay the bills.

The Cinnamon Peeler

The Cinnamon Peeler by Michael Ondaatje

If I were a cinnamon peeler
I would ride your bed
and leave the yellow bark dust
on your pillow.

Your breasts and shoulders would reek
you could never walk through markets
without the profession of my fingers
floating over you. The blind would
stumble certain of whom they approached
though you might bathe
under rain gutters, monsoon.

Here on the upper thigh
at this smooth pasture
neighbor to your hairor the crease
that cuts your back. This ankle.
You will be known among strangers
as the cinnamon peeler's wife.

I could hardly glance at you
before marriagenever touch you
-- your keen nosed mother, your rough brothers.
I buried my hands
in saffron, disguised them
over smoking tar,
helped the honey gatherers...

When we swam once
I touched you in water
and our bodies remained free,
you could hold me and be blind of smell.
You climbed the bank and said

this is how you touch other women
the grasscutter's wife, the lime burner's daughter.
And you searched your arms
for the missing perfume.

and knew

what good is it
to be the lime burner's daughter
left with no trace
as if not spoken to in an act of love
as if wounded without the pleasure of scar.

You touched
your belly to my hands
in the dry air and said
I am the cinnamon
peeler's wife. Smell me.

Mad as a Hatter

Why am I always a day late? A dollar short? How does the rest of that song go? haha, well I took this photos yesterday after work right before I took my little brother to see Toy Story 3, which was fantastic, funny, and a wonderful end to the franchise! It's always nice to spend some time with my little brother, and when I say little I mean he's 15 (& I'm almost 21) and he is 5 inches taller than I am and outweighs me by a good 70lbs. But he is the baby in the family. We had a really good time!
I have been searching and searching to no avail for a wonderful fabulous hat since May, but this past weekend I finally found it! My boyfriend and I went shopping on thursday and I made it a point that I was going to buy a hat!! I really love it too. With my hair up or my hair down it looks great! As you may have noticed I do not like wearing my hair up. I have ear issues, I think they're ugly (Bryce, my boyfriend thinks they're cute and lovingly refers to me as "dopey" from the seven dwarfs). Anyways I wear my hair up now everyday for work and have some pretty wicked mean hardhat hair, this hat is perfect for covering that up when theres no time to wash and style it. I can't wait to wear this hat alll the time. Also I love this blouse it's feminine and so pretty, I don't own anything else like it either. These shorts were part of my good shopping steal on thursday, I got them for $10!! They fit amazing and are awesome.
Love, JennaDPeek-a-boo you can see my tattoo! It's an Ankh (ancient egyptian symbol for eternal life...I'm obsessed with Ancient Egypt for your information)

Woodland Creature

I had a very good long weekend, I hope everyone else did as well. My weekend was pretty busy and went a little something like this....right after work wedensday I went out with some friends and had a great time at our favourite pub. I had a few beers and got a little silly, which was fun because I havn't drank in sooo long. I spent thursday with my man before he left for a 10 day motorcycle trip through B.C. We went shopping and I got a few good Canada day deals (including this dress I got for $15 when it was normally $40). I then drove up to the lake lot my family has outside of town and spent the rest of the weekend hanging out there. It's really lovely there, you can go fishing, swimming, for a nice long hike or just sit and read a book. Which is really what I needed. My younger brother and I went on a few adventures walking around through the woods and taking our pup. I really wanted to wear my new dress so I threw it on with some flip flops for the walk and went. I will have a few more posts from the weekend!!
